"Identity" was developed from a project to practice studio lighting. I took this opportunity to combine studio portraiture and conceptual portraits together, as a way to not only practice technical skills, but utilize subject matter that is meaningful on a personal scale. I was given a challenge by my friend to use my design skills and push my usual subject matter from design into photography. Although it is a different medium, I was told it should still uphold the same concepts as If I were to illustrate or design. That being said, “Identity” is a series of conceptual portraits showcasing my experiences, or similar universal experiences as a Filipino American and the struggles of identity rooted from cultural values.
